Lumary DC - This article explains how to add information about a pro re nata (PRN) restrictive practice to a client's record for NDIS reporting.
A pro re nata (PRN) restrictive practice is a restrictive practice that is used as needed. To help meet NDIS reporting requirements for restrictive practices, users need to define any PRN restrictive practice that may need to be used for a client.

Before you begin...
To define a restrictive practice for NDIS reporting, the client must have a personal support plan that uses one of the following record types:
- Positive Behaviour Support Plan, or
- Restrictive Practices.
Find out how to create a personal support plan.
If you need to link to an existing behaviour of concern record, you'll also need the id number for that record.
To add PRN restrictive practice information to a client's contact record for NDIS reporting:
- Go to the client's record.
- Click on the Support Needs tab. You might need to use the More drop-down list at the end of the row of tabs to find this option.
- If it's not already open, click on the Risks, Assessments & Plans tab.
- Scroll down to the Personal Support Plans (Client) section.
- Click on the Personal Support Plan ID for the relevant Positive Behaviour Support Plan or Restrictive Practices plan.
To create a link to the personal support plan, you must create the new restrictive practice record from the relevant personal support plan record. If no plans are listed you'll need to create a personal support plan.
- This will open the personal support plan (PSP) record.
- Click on the Related tab.
- On the Restrictive Practices list, click on the New button.
- Click on the PRN radio button.
- Click on the Next button.
This will launch a New Restrictive Practice: PRN form. The following table explains the sections and fields on this form. Mandatory fields are marked with an asterisk.
| Field | Use and purpose |
|---|---|
| Details | |
| * Client | Use the search field to find and add the client's name. |
| Restrictive Practice Type | Select the type of restrictive practice that will be used. Make sure you select the correct type, as this cannot be changed once the record has been created. |
| Authorisation Status | Set the current status of authorisation. |
| Description | Free text field to capture a description of the practice. |
| Instructions | Free text field to add any additional instructions. |
| Behaviour of Concern | |
| * Behaviour of Concern |
If there's an existing behaviour of concern (BOC) record, search for it and select it. You'll need the id number of the relevant BOC record. To create a new behaviour of concern record, click in the field and select + New Behaviour of Concern. |
| Personal Support Plan | This field will auto-fill with the ID of the client's personal support plan record. This will be the record you used to launch this form. |
| Medication | Search for and link to medication records on your system. |
- Once you've completed all of the fields required by your organisation's policies, click on the Save button.
This will create a new PRN restrictive practice (RP) record. From that record, users will be able to record PRN usage.
