Lumary DC - This article explains how to add a high intensity need to a client's record.
High intensity needs are recognised by the NDIS as requiring additional support, planning and skills. Adding a high intensity need to a client record also applies the predefined skills descriptor contact tags to the client to assist in rostering appropriate workers. High intensity needs can be displayed as alerts to notify workers before they provide services.
Alerts can also be displayed for health conditions, risks, and personal support plans. Take care not to display too many alerts for each client as this may reduce their salience.
High Intensity Need records can be added directly, as described below, or when adding a Health Condition or a Client Risk.
To add a high intensity need:
- Go to the client's record.
- Click on the Support Needs tab.
- Click on the Health & Wellbeing tab.
- Locate the High Intensity Needs section.
- Click on the New button.
This will open a New High Intensity Need form. The following table describes the fields in this form. Mandatory fields are marked with an asterisk. Filling in some fields reveals or activates additional options.
| Field | Use and purpose |
|---|---|
| * Client | This field is auto-filled with the name of the client. |
| * High Intensity Need Name | Select an option from the list. |
| Display as Alert | Tick the checkbox to add this record to the alerts displayed on the client's record. |
| Description | You can provide a description of the high intensity need, which will be appended after the High Intensity Need Name (eg. Urinary Catheter Support: Alert summary text) when the record is displayed as an alert. |
| Health Condition | Use this field to link to a related health condition record if applicable. |
| Observation Schedule | Use this field to link to the related observation schedule. You can also add one if the related schedule has not been set up yet. |
| New Observation Schedule? | Tick the checkbox to add a new observation schedule to link to this high intensity need. |
| Personal Support Plan | Use this field to link to a related support plan record. |
- Click on the Next button.
If you've ticked the New Observation Schedule? checkbox, you'll need to complete a New Observation Schedule form.
- Once you complete any additional forms that appear based on your selections, review the details.
- Click on the Finish button.
The new record will now be listed under High Intensity Needs on the Support Needs - Health & Wellbeing tab. To edit or delete this record:
- Click on the drop-down arrow at the end of the row.
- Select Edit or Delete.
If your system administrator has associated one or more contact tags with the high intensity need, these tags will be added to the client record automatically when you add the high intensity need. These can be viewed on the client record under the Preferences & Legal tab. Contact tags can be checked in matching rules when rostering workers to support this client. See how to tag a worker for client matching.
If you selected Display as Alert, the high intensity need will be listed as an alert at the top of the client's record. This will highlight to workers, the level of support required when they work with the client.
